Lavender has a sedative action on the heart and has long been known to bring down high blood pressure and calm palpitations. It is also very helpful in alleviating insomnia and is said to calm and soothe the nerves. It is very good for nervous exhaustion.

My favourite way of enjoying the calming effects of lavender are to run myself a bath, then add 6-10 drops of Lavender Oil and swish them to disperse. Light a few candles around the bath, play some relaxing music, an soak for at least 15 minutes. The best time to do this, of course, just before going to bed.
If you don't have a bath, a couple of drops on the pillow (one each side of your head) can be almost as effective. Some people prefer to put the drops on a tissue so that you can remove it should you wish to.
6 drops in an aromatherapy burner will also produce that calming, soothing effect. I prefer the electric ceramic type as it obviates the need for candles and it doesn't come to any harm if you inavvertently leave it on.
